Starting in June 2023, Canada introduced category-based Express Entry draws, marking a new era of targeted immigration selection. These draws aim to identify candidates with specific occupations or proficiency in French.
The purpose of this program is for Canada to select immigrants who can actively contribute to the country in a more precise manner. Category-based rounds add to general and program-specific rounds by inviting top-ranking candidates who can help Canada meet these specific economic goals.
In simpler terms, Canada now selects immigrants based on specific job skills and language abilities to ensure they bring exactly what the country needs. This change makes the immigration process smoother and more tailored to Canada’s economic goals.
The following categories were chosen for the rounds in 2023, which began in June:

1. Have French-language test results that show a minimum score of 7 in all 4 language abilities on the Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens
